Paper arrives to stay
September 30, 2016
A new editorial team stepped into the school’s student newspaper office in September to re-launch the Campus Current after a year’s hiatus.
This issue of the Campus Current is the publication’s first since November 2015. The newspaper, which covers AACC but is independent of the college, will publish monthly during the school year, according to editor Cody Colston, a sophomore.
“Everything is going to be related to the campus,” Colston said. “We are going to be more accurate, more professional and deliver news first for students.”
The Campus Current introduced several changes with this issue.
The newspaper’s front page, for example, sports a newly designed logo. And a staff of nearly 20 reporters, editors, designers and photographers volunteered to work on the publication this semester.
“They’re talented,” the newspaper’s new faculty adviser, Sharon O’Malley, said of the student journalists. “I have no doubt that this paper will not just succeed, but be excellent.”
Another addition this semester is sophomore Adam Hertz, the Campus Current’s advertising and public relations manager.
“One of the biggest, most significant changes is everything we write about, you can’t find those stories anywhere else,” Hertz said.
Third-year student Jesse Johnson is the paper’s associate editor.
“With the people we have, and the stories we will turn out, I think it will be successful,” Johnson said about the paper.
The newspaper began as the Trailblazer in 1967. Prior student editors updated the name to Campus Crier in 1981. The name changed to Campus Current in 2008.
