As another semester comes to an end, students facing last-minute term papers, make-up tests and final exams often need to find a quiet place for study time.

They need to look no further than the newly remodeled Andrew G. Truxal Library, which is located in the center of Anne Arundel Community College’s campus and is home to more than 150,000 books, 80 computers, free tutoring, 15 private study rooms, and many other research and personal assistance resources for students.

“The library’s main goal is to provide programs for numerous courses to make sure that students have everything that they need if they can’t get it at home,” said Brandon Neary, the library’s student services specialist.

The library’s webpage notes it is AACC’s “one-stop shop” for every student’s research needs, and some students say they have found it to be everything the webpage claims, including a repository of resources that can be accessed online from remote locations.

“Whenever I need a paper done or any research for a class, I immediately refer to the library,” said AACC student Lexi White. “Not only does it offer computers and printers for class papers and other assignments, but I can research almost anything with the assistance of the library help desk. If you just ask them they will help anybody. No hesitation.”

AACC student Corey Whitefox said the college offers an excellent study environment overall, but the library is his favorite spot.

“The library in itself is worth the money we pay to attend this school,” he said. “I love it. I come to a private study room almost every day that I have class with my classmates to thoroughly discuss our lectures.

“In every building, I notice a quiet place I can sit to read or study. Not many schools offer resources like the ones that AACC does, especially not community colleges.”

During finals week, the library will be open Monday throughThursday from 8 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday from 12 p.m.-5 p.m.

White could only think of one thing she would like to see AACC add for the convenience of students.

With a coffee cup in her hand, White said: “The only resource missing from the campus is a Starbucks.”
