The Student Government Association and multiple clubs collaborated to celebrate Earth Day in the CALT Amphitheater on Tuesday.
The SGA and Super Science Club, along with 10 other clubs, held an outdoor event to spread awareness about keeping our planet clean. The clubs set up tables around the courtyard to promote their organizations and hand out free items like water bottles, key chains and origami flowers.
We “just wanted to focus on community, [and] bringing everybody on campus together,” Meredith Dales, a second-year kinesiology student, said. “We really feel at home on campus. And celebrating the earth. It is our home too.”
Dales, the president of the SGA, said she organized the event to raise awareness for the health of the earth, and revitalize trails near campus.
Activities included creating seed bombs of local and natural seeds and cleaning the trails on campus. Participants were even given raffle tickets for each activity completed.
Student businesses also set up their shops at the event.
“I got involved in this event because of the idea of collaborating with many different people,” Annaliese Ney, a fourth-year studio arts major, said. “To just have some fun and be outside.”
Some students, like second-year architecture student Jeshaiah Tandoc found the idea of events taking place on west campus appealing.
“I’m glad that it’s happening in West Campus, mostly because, like, … It is usually deserted,” Tandoc, who is also an Adventure Club member, said.
AACC’s Earth Day was about bringing together the community in an effort to better our collective home, according to Dales.
