AACC’s Psychology Club invited new members during their Recruitment Gathering Tuesday.
Members noted Psychology Club plans different events and activities to share their knowledge about psychology with the college community.
Dr. Julie Grignon and Dr. Jarred Jenkins, assistant professors of psychology and co-advisors of Psychology Club, welcomed new members and informed them about club activities ranging from guest speakers to field trips.
“[We host] some speakers, we also make a trip to the zoo to see some of the behind the scenes training they do, we also participate in STEM night … we are participating in a suicide awareness walk this year, and some other small activities throughout the year,” Jenkins said.
Members noted the club harbored a welcome environment in which they felt they could open up. “It’s got me to be more social and it helps me with class,” second-year psychology student Rachel Pearson said.
Sarah Juanita, a first-year nursing student, said she hopes the club can create more discussion to challenge differing viewpoints. “I would like for people to come and debate and discuss things so that way perspectives can get challenged,” Juanita said. “Hopefully, we could actually discuss dynamics in what makes human beings dually complex.”
On the upcoming events, Grignon also noted a speaker would come to the club later this semester. “We have a speaker coming in November to speak about Psychology and law,” Grignon said.
Jenkins said the club is looking for members, and open to any student. “Always looking for new members, and you don’t have to be a psychology major to join,” Jenkins said.
