AACC will rededicate its Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on Aug. 27 on West Campus to unveil a new design.

The 11 a.m. ceremony will showcase the design of former AACC landscape architecture student Kathryn Ellerbrock. The design features black-eyed Susans—the state flower—along the wall behind Maryland’s only statue of the iconic civil rights leader.

The new design features benches on the right and left sides of the statue, which remains unchanged.

Ellerbrock’s design beat nine other designs from classmates. She won a $1,000 scholarship for creating the winning design.

The college tapped community organizations for donations to fund the project.
