19 students preformed at Amaranth’s first coffee house open mic of the semester on Sept. 20.

Acts ranged from musicians, poets, singers, a stand-up comic, and a magical act duo. Much of the material presented was original content created by students.

Host, and Amaranth co-publicity manager Rebecca Cohn said, “We usually have a problem where not a lot of people come, so a lot of people will have to perform two or three times, but thankfully tonight is a very good night where we have a lot of people signing up”.

Regarding what can be performed during the coffee house Cohn said, “anything you can do on a stage within reason. Don’t do anything illegal or profane.”

One of the performers Brian Murphy second year English major said, “Having a forum where we can share our own work and not be judged, or have people ignore us or be disruptive, but be respectful of our attempts at making something beautiful.”

The magical duo performed a mind reading act using three participants from the audience.

The acts went over well with the audience. “I like the creativity of everyone”, said Trever Gardner first year criminal justice major.

Amaranth is AACC’s annually published journal of literature and the arts. They publish fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, drama, visual art & photography.

Coffee house is held on the third Wednesday of every month in Humanities room 112 from 7-9pm.

The next open mic will take place on Oct. 18.
