AACC welcomed prospective high school students to the Health and Life Sciences Building open house event on Thursday to get a closeup look at the facilities and amenities offered.
The HLSB, which opened in 2022 and is the largest building on campus at 175,000 square feet, hosts a variety of programs like nursing, medical coding, and most recently a dental hygiene program.
“We want [prospective students] to get a visual for what the different healthcare professions do by touring the facility and by interacting with students and faculty in the state-of-the-art labs,” School of Health Sciences Admissions Coordinator Donna Sutherland said. “Our faculty and staff will guide them and be here for them through the entire process at AACC so that they are successful.”
Sutherland said students can become healthcare workers in a semester to a couple of years.
“I liked the fact that you could do a free guided tour by yourself,” Anahy Carrada, a senior at Annapolis High School, said. “And they let you get a refresher of what the majors are … everyone was super polite.”
Carrada admitted that she was nervous at first but felt more comfortable as she walked around and asked questions.
Joseph Bradshaw, a soon-to-be student, came to the open house to learn about AACC’s Emergency Medical Technician, or EMT, training program.
“I enjoyed the atmosphere,” Bradshaw said. “Everyone was very welcoming and engaging.”
