Two former pageant queens hosted a 2-hour interactive about confidence and learning to runway walk on Tuesday.
Ciera Butts, a former pageant queen, and Cordelia Cranshaw, Miss District of Columbia USA 2019, shared their personal journeys and offered advice on overcoming self-doubt in Humanities 112.
“I want them to understand that confidence radiates from within,” Cranshaw said. “Confidence is something that we can always work on and improve, but it starts with loving yourself and believing in yourself.”
The event was divided into two parts. The first hour was “Mindset & Mental Readiness,” where the session focused on learning techniques to manage academic stress and overcome self-doubt
In the second part, students learned how to walk if they were in a runway show.
“I thought it was really fun,” first-year kinesiology student Abby Loftus said. “It was very different from anything I’ve ever done. I didn’t realize how much technique went into just walking, but it was so fun.”
Second-year psychology student Layla Lee said she joined the event because she found it interesting.
“They would have some confidence tips, and that’s something I’m looking for,” Lee said. “So I thought it would be helpful.”
