34 clubs gathered for a Club Crashers involvement fair for students to look at different clubs from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Student Union.
Each club set up their own table to help promote themselves and engage with students who might not have known the club even existed.
“The [involvement] fair gives students the opportunity to promote their clubs and organizations to …either new students or returning students,” Winnie Shabazz, the event specialist for the Office of Student Engagement, said. “But it also gives existing clubs the opportunity to build relationships with each other, to kind of help promote collaboration.”
This year numerous clubs participated in a scavenger hunt to provide extra entertainment for those who attended. Overcast Improv hid different vegetables and clues around the fair that led to their regular meeting place in HUM 112.
The clubs handed out candy, free merch, and copies of their publications. The Office of Student Engagement also provided free food like grilled cheese and soup. Numerous s’mores stations were also set up around the space to give it a bonfire feel.
President of the Art Association Club Annaliese Ney said around 20 new students came up to their table excited to get involved.
“I feel really good,” Ney, a third-year studio arts transfer student, said.
Shabazz said she is happy that students showed up because it shows they are interested and “they can build these relationships throughout the semester.”
Second-year radiology student Nadia Abdolahi said she wants to make new friends at clubs and to be more involved on campus.
“I thought this was perfect,” Abdolahi said. “So I could actually see what clubs there are and try to find at least one that I thought would suit me.”
First-year entrepreneurship student Alison Paskalides said she was interested in joining the sculpture club.
“I want to learn more about art,” Paskalides said. “I’m not taking sculpture or any 3D art classes, so I think a sculpture club would be an interesting introduction.”
