Students gave some advice to an architecture firm Wednesday about upgrades to campus buildings that the college might make over the next 10 years.
About 150 students participated in a Student Engagement Workshop in the Health and Life Sciences Building to weigh in on whether the college needs more computer labs, lecture halls or outdoor study areas.
Joey O’Toole, a second-year student studying to become a physical therapist assistant, said he would like the college to add an outdoor workout area.
“As someone who likes to do a lot of things outdoors and likes to move around a lot, seeing things like that would be really nice,” O’Toole said.
Alesha Guzik, a 10th-year nursing student, said the event was a “super smooth set up.”
Guzik said her favorite part of the event was “that I had the option to give just a written out opinion. As a mom of a 3-year-old, child care is different. I would love to see different things, to be able to engage with my son or just to have childcare options.”
JMZ Architects and Planners, who are based in Glens Falls, New York, worked with AACC to host a Student Engagement Workshop, where students picked what facility upgrades they would like to see added on campus.
Representatives of JMZ Architects, which previously worked with AACC to design the Health and Life Sciences Building, are helping the college create a 10-year master plan for facilities.
“The college hired us to come assist with campus planning,” architect Sarah Mozjer said. “We’ve been part of the planning efforts for many years on this campus, for the past decade.”
The speakers said multiple campus buildings are in need of renovations. The Florestano and Dragun buildings are under construction for upgrades now.
Mozjer said the event was “super,” adding, “Your group at AACC has been very good at, like, participating and giving us feedback.”
