Students channeled their inner artists on the Quad Tuesday.
AACC’s Office of Student Engagement held its annual Paint a Pumpkin activity so students could practice self care while decorating pumpkins.
“This is so much fun. I feel like a little kid again,” Jasmine Morales, a second-year transfer studies student, said. “There’s such nice weather today. [It’s] a time to enjoy the fall. I feel like that’s not something I usually do.”
“I saw it online and I was like, ‘You have to do it again’ because we did it last year,” Savannah Campagnoli, a first-year nursing student, said.
“I did ghosts on one [last year],” Sade Olajide, an AACC alumnus, said. “I’m doing ghosts again actually, right now. They’re not as good as last time.”
Campagnoli and Olajide said they were impressed with the improvements in the event since last year. “I don’t think there was music last time, and the little cute affirmations [are new].” Campagnoli said.
“I hold this event and all my self-care events just to create a space to do things other than school,” Laura Wilson, the new student orientation and first-year experience assistant, said. “I specialize in self-care events, so creative expression goes with that.”
Wilson added, “Artistic expression events and social events get a high attendance but I don’t mind either way. As long as I get one student and it benefits them, it’s great.”
Kyron Fallstone, a first-year business student, said he had a lot of fun at the event.
“I like to do art but I’m not super artistic,” Fallstone said. “I won’t go out of my way to do it, but when I do, I get really focused. Like, right now I’m waiting for the paint to dry so I can finish my Michael Myers [from the movie “Halloween”] pumpkin.”
