Half a dozen local organizations were on campus on Monday to share medical and safety information with the college’s LGBTQ community.
The Queer Wellness and Advocacy Resource Fair was the first event for Coming Out Week, which the college is celebrating all month.
“I was so proud of the event,” Caitlin Silver Negrón of the college’s IDEAL (inclusion, diversity, equity, access and leadership) Office said. “We centered important resources in the community and gave students [an] opportunity to connect.”
Organizations like Annapolis Pride, One Pasadena and Chase Brexton, which specializes in gender-affirming medical care, set up booths with medical and safety information.
“They’re providing information about, like STI testing, safe sex, community Resources for queer people [and] violence,” Adrian Chute, a second-year visual arts student, said.
Chute, who is part of the Genders & Sexuality Alliance, a student club, said the event “turned out well. They had a good setup. What they did have was good.”
Negrón, the coordinator of inclusive excellence for the IDEAL Office, agreed.
The next Coming Out Week event, which will focus on inclusiveness, will be the Allyship Training on Oct. 11 in Room 145B of the Health and Life Sciences Building from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
