Students performed in front of their peers during the monthly Amaranth Coffee House held by AACC’s Amaranth Club on Thursday.
Performers shared everything from animal impressions to original songs to a supportive audience over coffee and snacks in the Student Union dining hall.
“It felt really nice to be able to share this piece that’s been really personal to me and in front of everyone,” Isabelle Murray, a third-year creative writing student who recited an original piece at the event, said.
As the night went on, students performed original compositions and covers, including songs by the artists Mitski, Caroline Polachek, and Laufey.
“It was a little karaoke heavy,” Zoe Sharp, a third-year creative writing and psychology double major, and editor-in-chief of Amaranth, said. “Since people are only really starting the semester, people haven’t written as much as they want to yet.”
Sharp highlighted her favorite part of the night, a cover of “Hellfire” from the “Hunchback of Notre Dame,” which “blew me away.”
Some students performed multiple times throughout the coffee house, singing songs as well as reading their own writing excerpts.
“It was really fun,” Claudia McCandless, a first-year undecided student, said.
The next Amaranth Coffee House will be Oct. 24 in SUN Dining Hall.
