A first-year kinesiology student is running uncontested this week for the position of Student Government Association president.
Jayeim Blake, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago and moved to Maryland to attend AACC, said his campaign platform is focused on diversity.
“I’m from … a multicultural island,” Blake, a goalkeeper on the Riverhawks men’s soccer team, said. “And ever since I came to AACC, I found out that, you know, this community represents the same thing, right? I’ve seen a lot of diverse people from all over the world.”
Blake has never worked with AACC’s SGA before, but said he’s had leadership experience his “whole life.”
“I’ve always been a leader,” Blake said. “I’ve played many different athletics, I [was] valedictorian for my high school, I [was] president for my high school.”
Blake said he hopes to be an “approachable” president.
“If you ever see me on campus, you usually see me walk around with a smile on my face,” Blake said.
Elections for SGA president and the six vice president positions opened this week, and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Friday. Students can vote online at nest.aacc.edu, but there are no contested races.
