AACC hosted an art exhibit featuring work from Korean-American artists about their relationship with their identity on Wednesday.
The exhibit, “Disconnect/Connect,” displayed work from the Han-Mee Artist Association, a group of Korean-American artists.
Jin Lee, a visual arts professor, organized the event after the president of the association reached out about hosting.
“You’re connected as well as disconnected simultaneously,” Lee said. “If I go visit my homeland, or if I’m here in America, I’m still ‘here,’ but I’m also there at the same time. I’m connected but not.”
Yunkyoung Cho, an artist and member of the association, who participated in the event said “I really wanted the students who attended school, visiting the show, to look around and then see another culture and the difference between their lifestyle.”
Sookkyung Park, another artist and member of the association said “My art is always eternal. I want to express my soul.”
Christina Ahn, a third-year business administration student said she attended the event after doing a tour on campus.
Rachel Gwin, a second-year nursing student said “It’s always interesting to see the different exhibits put up. … It’s very fascinating to see all the different types of art styles that people have.”
